ACT: 

​

The ACT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions and is offered six times per year.  The ACT contains five sections-English, Math, Reading Science and Writing.  All Juniors in North Carolina will take the ACT FOR FREE in March during the school day.   No registration is required and this score can be used for college admission!

Pre-ACT: 

​

The Pre-ACT is a shortened practice ACT test that allows students to predict how they would do on the actual ACT test.  Students can use the results to determine what areas they need to study more of before they take the ACT.  The PreACT is given in October to all CMS 10th grade students free of charge.  This is a great opportunity to practice for the ACT!

SAT:

​

The SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions and is offered seven times per year.  The SAT contains two sections:  Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing.  You must register online and pay the fee.

PSAT: 

 

The PSAT is a practive SAT test that allows students to predict how they would do on the actual SAT test.  Students can use the results to determine what areas they need to study more of before they take the SAT.  PSAT scores are also used to identify National Merit Scholars and award merit scholarships.  The PSAT is given to all CMS 10th and 11th grade students free of charge.  The PSAT is administered in October each year.

There are many test prep companies of varying cost and length.  There are free test prep options through the College Board, ACT and others.
