Sweet Briar Women's College is hosting a fall open house Sept 30- Oct 1 and Nov 11-12.  Students are invited to spend the night in a residence hall with current students or just attend for the day.  Visit their website to read more about the planned activities  and to register now.

Seniors!  Hopewell seniors will have the opportunity to attend the annual CACRAO college fair on Thursday, October 4th, 2018.  Over 125 colleges and universities from around the country will be available to discuss admissions requirements and answer student questions.  There is space available for 80 students to attend.  Pick up and return permission slips from student services.  First come, first served!

In light of the devastation caused by Hurricane Forence, NC State University is sending the following message regarding application deadline extensions and accommodations to students.  Please take note of the following changes in deadlines!  Admissions deadlines for first-year students applying for Early Action for Fall 2019 have been extended to November 1.  The Park Scholarship deadline will also be extended to November 1 and the deadline for high schools to endorse Park candidates is October 18.  The Goodnight Scholars Program has extended their self-nomination deadline to December 1 and the program application to January 15.  To apply for the Goodnight Scholars, you must be a North Carolina resident and apply by NC State's early action deadline of November 1.

Inspiring Youth through College Exposure (IYCE) is a non-profit organization that grants low income and minority students first hand college exposure and the knowledge needed to prepare for higher education.  IYCE will be hosting a free FAFSA workshop on October 6th, 2018 at the Beatties Ford Library at 2412 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216.  The workshop will run from  10:00 AM-1:00 PM and will be presented by financial aid counselors from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  They will present information on FAFSA, help parents fill out the FAFSA forms step by step, provide information on available grants an dscholarships, and provide information about the opportunities available at UNCC.  Anyone who is interested in attendin the workshop should bring their own device, 2017 tax return, W2s if filed jointly, and identification to apply and complete the FAFSA application.

Appalachian State University is hosting Dia Latino, a free one-day event on Monday, October 1st from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  This event will give high school juniors and seniors a first-hand view of Appalachian.  Students who are competitive for admission at Appalachian typically have at least a 3.75 GPA and an 1100 SAT or 22 ACT composite score.  Activities will be either bilingual or in Spanish.  Students may bring two guests.  Lunch and a light breakfast will be provided to all.  If you are interested in attending, go to ASU's website to register now!

Attention African American students interested in learning more about Appalachian State University!  You are invited to African-American Prospective Progam (2APP) on Monday, October 22, 2018.  This free event gives select students a first-hand view of Appalachian.  to attend, students must submit online 2APP event registration and submit the completed Parent Authorization Form before the event.  Students cannot attend the event without submitting the form.  Transportation will be provided from the Dowd YMCA.

An exciting opportunity awaits future teachers on October 12, 2018.  Aspiring Teachers' Day, hosted by the Gardner-Webb University School of Education, is an open house event designed to showcase what it's like to be a teacher candidate at GWU.  Attendees will enjoy a full tour of the School of Education, a Question and Answer session with a current student panel and breakout sessions with faculty.  Any students interested in the fields of education or teaching should register for this event at visit@gardner-webb.edu.  Register now!

Attention Seniors!!!  The University of South Carolina was fortunate to avoid significant damage from Hurricane Florence, but many of their prospective students were affected by the storm.  As a result, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions is extending the October 15 Early Answer deadline to Sunday, October 21st at 11:59 PM for all students, regardless of state of residence.
